How to Make Creamy Mashed Potatoes

  • Start by peeling and chopping the potatoes into equal-sized pieces.
  • Place the chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water, bring to a boil, and cook until fork-tender (15-20 minutes).
  • Carefully drain the cooked potatoes in a colander and return them to the hot pot for a minute to help evaporate any excess moisture.
  • Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes until they are smooth and free from lumps. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Pour in the melted butter and blend it gently into the potatoes until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually pour in the hot milk or cream, mixing continuously until you achieve the desired creaminess.
  • Taste and sprinkle in salt and pepper as needed before serving.
