Ingredients
  

For the Filling

  • 1 lb Ground Beef or Turkey or lentils/tempeh for vegetarian option
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika

For the Melts

  • 4 slices Thick-Cut Bread Sourdough or Ciabatta
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 2 tbsp Butter for greasing
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley optional, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef or turkey, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • In the same skillet, add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until onion is translucent.
  • Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low for 5-7 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread and place them butter-side down on a baking sheet.
  • Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice of bread. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly, garnish with parsley, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add pickled jalapeños before baking. Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 3 days.
