  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz)
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, or almonds), coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, combine coarsely chopped mixed nuts with sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
  3. Carefully unroll phyllo dough, placing one sheet in the dish and brushing with melted butter. Repeat for five sheets.
  4. Sprinkle half of the nut mixture over the layered phyllo. Add another five buttered sheets.
  5. Layer the remaining nut mixture and cover with five more buttered sheets. Cut diamond shapes into the top layer.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown. For the syrup, combine water, sugar, and honey in a saucepan; heat until dissolved and pour hot syrup over baklava immediately after baking.
