  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients; mix until just combined.
  5. Divide batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy; gradually add powdered sugar.
  8. Frost cooled cake layers and serve.
