Description

Grandma’s Southern Cornbread Dressing is the quintessential comfort food that transforms any meal into a festive feast. With its golden-brown crust and fluffy, savory interior, this dish is a beloved holiday staple that evokes warm memories and brings families together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups crumbled cornbread (about 1 batch homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage, chopped (or 2 tsp dried)
  • 1 tbsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Crumble cornbread into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion; sauté until tender (about 5 minutes).
  3. Combine sautéed vegetables with crumbled cornbread in the bowl. Stir in sage, poultry seasoning, and enough chicken broth to moisten without making soggy.
  4. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.
