  • 3 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Toss apple slices with cinnamon and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar until bubbly; stir until smooth.
  4. Pour caramel into the greased pan and layer apple slices on top.
  5. In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and remaining cinnamon; add eggs and mix until combined.
  6. Pour batter over apple layer and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool slightly before flipping onto a platter.
